In line with the South Ken ZEN+ Supply Chain Charter, we've developed a Guide to Greenwashing designed to help people be more 'intelligent' clients.

The South Ken ZEN+ Sustainable Purchasing: How to Spot Greenwashing guide is designed to help our members make informed decisions when encountering environmental or “green” claims.

We want to raise the bar on sustainable purchasing. Our choices can make a meaningful contirbution to our shared ambition for a zero emissions, nature-positive neighbourhood.

In South Kensington, Purchased Goods and Services make up around 60% of our neighbourhood carbon footprint. When reviewing a product, a service, or a supplier's broader strategy, it's worth pausing to ask: is this claim credible, clear and meaningful?

Drafted by a crack team of Procurement and Sustainability experts from within the South Ken ZEN+ network, this guide provides three key considerations of how to assess supplier claims with confidence:

  • Focus on substance over style
  • Ask for evidence
  • Consider the full impacts

Detailed guidance and examples for each point are also available for those who wish to dig deeper.

This guide has been developed from the South Ken ZEN+ Supply Chain Charter, a shared commitment by members of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group to align our individual procurement practices with our overarching goal of being a zero emissions, nature-positive neighbourhood.
